Arturo Vidal Labels Atletico Madrid Much Like Juventus
Arturo Vidal believes Atletico Madrid may be the toughest opponent Bayern Munich might have faced within the semifinals from the Champions League and likened Diego Simeone’s men to former club Juventus.
Bayern needed additional time to determine off Serie A champion Juve as a whole of 16, before coming via a tough quarterfinal tie against Benfica.
Atleti bumped out title-holder and favorite Barcelona to setup a tie with Bundesliga champion Bayern, and Vidal is expecting another tricky encounter from the Liga high-flyer.
“Atletico would be the toughest opponent we’re able to enter the semifinals. We had that against Barcelona. They make the perfect team and physically strong. It will likely be a really complicated tie, but we are hoping to make it towards the final,” Vidal was quoted as saying by Marca. “I believe our type of play may benefit them. They would like to hit their opponents around the break. We must be careful and can’t permit them any space. Atletico are very much like Juventus plus they made existence very difficult for all of us.
“We can’t manage to bring them gently. Atletico are extremely brave and aggressive. It will likely be an actual tie. [Diego] Simeone is among the best coaches on the planet. He is doing perfectly at Atletico. He led these to a Liga title and also the Champions League final.”
The very first leg will occur in the Vicente Calderon on April 27, using the return in the Allianz Arena scheduled for May 3.
